Odawa Neeskak Toastmasters is Ottawa's only Aboriginal Toastmasters club. Situated in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, we invite people of all nations to come and learn about communication and leadership with us.

Our name "Odawa Neeskak" embodies the principles on which our club was founded. The name "Odawa" is an Algonquin word meaning "Trader", which acknowledges and honours the Odawa nation who travelled the waters of the Ottawa River. The word "Neeskak" which means "geese", was given to us by one of our charter members who spoke the Cree language. We draw inspiration from the communication and leadership skills demonstrated by the geese and from the oral traditions of the people of Turtle Island.

Odawa Neeskak Toastmasters was chartered as a member club of Toastmasters International on May 1, 2000. It is a unique club that showcases Aboriginal content while following the Toastmasters International framework. The club has been featured on CBC Radio Morning (listen to the clip here) and Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) National News.

At Odawa Neeskak Toastmasters, we learn by speaking in a group and working with others in a supportive environment. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation. Our meetings are as varied as our members and can include storytelling, guest speakers from the community, Aboriginal issues and culture, and much more.

Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from our practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, Odawa Neeskak Toastmasters can help you do it better. You'll learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason you are—to become better communicators and leaders.
